1229: Portsmouth owner Sulaiman Al Fahim is reportedly now promising to inject £50m into the club, following a difficult week. He was quoted in the Spanish press stating that they would not be spending money in January, and then cancelled a planned meeting with fans on Friday. Peter Storrie is also considering his future as chief exec, as he is losing faith in whether the new owner has the finances to take Pompey forward.
1226: No Fergie derby then… but Arsenal Youth v Liverpool sounds OK.
1225 CARLING CUP DRAW
Blackburn v Peterborough, Man City v Scunthorpe, Spurs v Everton, Barnsley v Man Utd, Chelsea v Bolton, Sunderland v Aston Villa, Arsenal v Liverpool, Portsmouth v Stoke

1222: Stand by your beds. Carling Cup fourth-round draw coming up.
1217: TEAM NEWS Portsmouth v Everton
Carling Cup hero Aruna Dindane wins his fitness battle to make his first Premier League start for Portsmouth but there is no place in the squad for Steve Finnan or Frederic Piquionne. Everton make five changes to the side that beat Hull in the Carling Cup in midweek. Steven Pienaar, Joseph Yobo, Tim Cahill and Maroulane Fellani are back in the side, with Yakubu on the bench.

1210: That book (see below) is 992 pages long. That is approximately 990 pages longer than my attention span unfortunately. Anyway, don’t go thinking I’ve forgotten the Carling Cup draw. It’s coming up at 1215 BST. We could get a Fergie derby, which would be the most exciting thing to happen to the Carling Cup since… ever. Don’t forget you can check out highlights of the country’s second most premier cup competition on this website.
From Cakeypig via text on 81111: “Re 1145: If you’re looking to read a book today, Goldblatt’s ‘The Ball is Round’ is worth a dip. I’m hoping for a shock at Wigan myself.”
1206: Now, if you haven’t got something to say about any of that, I’d be surprised. You can say that something on 81111, on 606 or on Twitter.
1203: But if you’re still not convinced, how about this: Roy Keane’s struggling Ipswich side host second-placed Newcastle in the Championship’s late game. Both sides will wear shirts honouring their former manager Sir Bobby Robson, and Portman Road’s North Stand will be renamed the Sir Bobby Robson Stand. It’s live on BBC Two and this website (UK only). I can’t say fairer than that. I really can’t.
1158: And talking of men under pressure, how about Manchester United keeper Ben Foster? After a few shaky performances which have dampened any expectation that he might emerge as England’s World Cup stopper, Foster and his team-mates meet Stoke today - which is just what a keeper short on confidence probably doesn’t need.
1153: Phil Brown walked away from a BBC interview yesterday after becoming a teeny bit fed up of answering questions about the pressure he’s under. And BBC 5 live spoke to Hull chairman Paul Duffen last night. This is my personal highlight from Duffen: “One of the things I’m not looking at (a) is failure, and (b) is negative options.” You can kind of see why Brown and Duffen get on so well can’t you?
1149: For example, fresh from a 4-0 mauling by Everton in the Carling Cup, can Hull relieve the pressure on manager Phil Brown with a result… at Anfield? Brown is joined in the race no-one wants to win by Portsmouth’s Paul Hart, who reportedly needs a win over Everton in today’s early game to avoid the boot, and Gary Megson at Bolton, who travel to Birmingham.
1145: I know. You’re looking at today’s fixture list, and you’re thinking: ‘I might just read a book’. I admit, I did the same - but reading a book (so my boss tells me) is not an option for me today, and anyway, scratch beneath the surface of a fairly uninspiring Premier League fixture list, and I think you’ll find some gold…
